Welcome to Week 4 Day 4.

To my amazing Cosmonauts, click on the link below to get started and find out what is on the star studded line up for the day.

Trust me, you and I together, are going to make this an “out of this world” experience.

I know you’ve got this, so let’s get started…

Writing

Well, I did promise you an “out of this world experience,” so, to ensure this, today’s writing practice involves two factors:

1. One, it will involve a “hook” or attention grabber to reel in your audience and make them want to keep reading.

 2. Two, it will be outer space or space exploration themed.  (Be creative with this.  You can take your writing anywhere another planet perhaps, to alternate realities or existences, introduce us to aliens, far away distant galaxies or lands, etc.

“Hey now!” the students protested, “that’s cheating.”

To which I respond, “No, my dears.  It’s simply thinking creatively and in an out of the box fashion.”

After watching the video, your assignment is to use each of the six strategies indicated in the video (ie; Question, Exclamation, Sound Effect, Dialogue, Shocking Fact, and Figurative Language) and write an example for each.

Alright Cosmonauts, I’m counting on you to launch us to even greater heights.  Click on the link below and I will demonstrate to you some more writing strategies for “hooking” your audience with a successful opening.

Grammar

Hop on over to Khan Academy and you will learn about adjective order.

First watch the video that will teach you about the order to put your adjectives in.

While watching the video, make sure to jot some notes down. (Hint- you should know what DOSA SCOMP means--or what each letter stands for.)

After that video, you will follow the next link and need to be able to put to practice what you have just learned.

In a follow up activity tomorrow, we will do an activity together where we will use the adjective order to help us stretch a sentence.

**As always, don’t forget to log in to Khan Academy before beginning any work there.

Science

To continue on this Space theme, we’re going to join in with Bill Nye, “The Science Guy” and go on an outer space exploration.

Come with me, and let’s take a virtual cruise on over to Bill’s Nye’s lab via the teleporting link below.

(**Don’t forget to print up the corresponding Space worksheet to bring with you on this adventure.  Also, don’t forget to buckle up, it will be a wickedly fast ride).

Here we go.  Launching in 3, 2, 1…  Blastoff!

Math

Hopefully you are starting to get the hang of this division “stuff”.  The more you practice, the better you will get.

To see a review tutorial on division used in word problems, click the link below and follow along.

Then complete the division worksheet provided at the bottom of the page.
