Writing
Today we will work on turning an interrogative into a declarative—or more simply stated, restating a question. This is a good skill to have whether you are answering a question, responding to a writing prompt, or stating a topic sentence. To practice this skill, look at the examples I have provided on the print out worksheet at the bottom of the page, and then try some on your own.
Reading
Today you will be reading, Tiger Son from the online site— Magic Keys. Before following the link and reading the story, print up the word list worksheet that I provided for you. I will want you to decode these terms through the use of either decoding or through your “close” reading strategies. These strategies can include: re-reading the text, looking for context clues (ie; what the other words around the unknown word is saying), using another substitute word within the sentence (to see what might also make sense), or finally, using a dictionary to look up the unknown word. You may print up the worksheet now and then follow the link to read the story.

Science
Let’s go on a Science Scavenger Hunt. Provided for you at the bottom of the page is a checklist to bring with you and check off as you go about on a walk outside. You will be identifying, charting and labeling key Science terms and phenomena (that you have already learned about in class) in your ordinary, every day environment. You will need to either write out or print the checklist, bring something to write with and bring your observation and recording skills with you too— you will definitely need them for this activity. Then I want you to check off as many items as possible out of the list of 10 items given to you. After you have the list, on either the back or an alternate piece of paper, I want you to draw out and label 5 of those 10 items. This will enhance your observation and recording skills—both very important skills in Science. Ready. Set. Let’s go…
