Vocabulary:
Write out your vocab words and put each into an abstract colorful art scene. (You may reference my example, but do not feel bound by it. You may take it and do with it as you please, incorporating your words into almost any picture and you may use any medium as well (ie; marker, crayon, collage, sidewalk chalk, etc). Have fun. (Important- make sure you spell the words correctly and then use each word each in a sentence).
Writing:
Your writing prompt for the day is to predict what will happen next in The Lightning Thief. Based on what has happened so far, (ie; the mission and goal or what the characters want to get out of the situation they find themselves in, as well as their overall objective and anything else you feel may be critical to the characters role(s)— how will they get of the current situation they find themselves in? Will they be able to escape? Will they get where they are going and will they find the master bolt and prevent World War III. If so, how?
Remember— 5th graders you need to write a minimum of 2-3 paragraphs with approx 8 sentences per paragraph. 4th graders— you need to write 2 paragraphs approx 6 sentences per paragraph. Make sure to do your best work and use the Mnemonic C.O.P.S to edit your work. C- stands for Capitalization. The beginning of all sentences should be capitalized and proper nouns should too. O- stands for organization. You should have a clear beg- mid- and end. Include a topic sentence at the beginning and a concluding sentence at the end. P- stands for Punctuation. Make sure you are using appropriate end marks (ie; periods, exclamation and question marks as well as commas and quotes when and where necessary. Finally, make sure to be careful of S- which stands for Sentence structure or Syntax. The flow of your sentences should be logical and make sense (don’t skip words). C.O.P.S. should be out and “patrolling” all of your written work to ensure that you are following the “letters of the law”. In other words, use C.O.P.S to edit and check your work after completing each written assignment.
Social Studies:
Read Chapter 2 from the US Constitution packet you Downloaded last week from Core Knowledge. Make sure to review your key terms and definitions from last week’s reading as well as to write out the new words for this week. You will be having a Vocab quiz in the coming week so you will want to be prepared.
Math:
Print out the new worksheet for the Distributive Property below, and practice that. If you need to review the lesson from Week 2 Day 1 you may do so!
