Vocabulary:
Quotient and Estimate are your next two words to map out.
Writing:
Previously, we have focused on the “hook” strategy in writing. We learned various strategies on how to catch the reader's attention and get them to read on. Today, I want to take a turn to shine a light on conclusions.
I will share strategies with you students on various techniques to hone this skill. Make sure to watch the video for specific techniques.
The follow up writing assignment for today is to write an essay on how you predict (or would like) for The Lightning Thief to end.
You will need to write 3 paragraphs of approximately 6-8 sentences each. Come up with a small story, something exciting, but that blends with and makes sense in terms of what has happened so far.
Then I want you to employ a minimum of one or two of the techniques that are introduced today for your conclusion (ie; end with a moral lesson, a reflection, a question or cliff hanger for example).
Remember, that a conclusion often comes back around and makes a complete circle so try and remember how The Lightning Thief started out and come back to that so you have ended where you left off. It’s like arriving back at the original destination or your home base after a long journey. Before you can do that though, there has to be a clear end point and conclusion to signal that the journey is complete.

Reading:
Today we will be looking at cause and effect. Remember, the cause of something is what created or made something happen. The effect is what happened afterwards as a result of that action.
Today we will study and learn about this relationship and then you will have a follow-up assignment tomorrow.

Math:
We will continue on with word problems today. We will write out equations as well as solve the problems. Follow along with me and then watch the video from Khan Academy.
