I will be out of the office and on Holiday Thursday and Friday April 9-10th. I will be back at the beginning of next week and will touch base with you then. Until then, for these next two days, here are the expectations
-Mrs. Lee
Vocabulary
Write out your spelling words 2x. First write the words without the silent “e” at the end. Then pronounce the word with a short vowel. (It should sound very different.) Then practice adding the silent “e” at the end of the word and pronounce the words correctly with the long vowel-- making sure that the vowel in the word “says it’s name”. Write and speak both of the words for all words on your list. Practice saying the word this way both days. Then for Friday, write each word in a sentence.
Reading:
I want you to Read and provide a Summary in your Reading Log. Reading Logs are provided for you at the bottom of the page. Read for each night
Writing:
I want you to write an informative essay on birds in your area. To do this, I want you to first observe and choose a bird. Part of the trick will be to identify what kind of bird it is.
In addition to the Research Report or Essay, I want you to observe and chart your bird first. (ie; draw and write recordings of flight patterns, what it eats, where it sleeps, any and all sightings. Draw pictures of the bird, detail and make notes of it’s size, color, etc. Make notes also about its habitat and the kind of foods it eats, etc.) This should be at least one page. Attach this to your Research Report.
For the written/typed report, you will need to do some research. This will be an informational piece grounded in facts and evidence. I want you to research and find out facts and information about your bird of choice.
Research areas of interest you may consider including are (but not limited to the following): habitat, size, color, and other physical features, flight/migration patterns, song, nutritional sources/sustenance, mating, self-preservation skills, special adaptations, etc.
(Please note: this is not an opinion piece. This is a Research Essay and I want you to stick to the facts. Just the facts;).
This Essay should have 3 paragraphs minimum 8 sentences each.
Make sure to use C.O.P.S. (ie; Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation and Syntax/ Sentence Structure. In other words, paper should have a: Title, clear beginning and end, a topic sentence, correct spelling. Make sure to capitalize the beginning of sentences as well as Proper Nouns. You should use correct punctuation also.
Include a Cite Page. Simply list where you got your research information from. (ie; a web address, name and page number if from a book, etc).
