Welcome to Week 5 Day 4. Click on the link below to learn about the activity lineup for today.
Grammar
For Grammar today, we will review proper vs. common noun usage. Follow the link below to re-familiarize yourself with these two types of nouns. Then answer a few questions to show your understanding.
Reading Comprehension
I would like to introduce you to a particular element of a story called the “conflict”. What is the “conflict” of a story, and why is it important? You are about to find out.
You will learn all of this and more and then take a turn at analyzing the conflict in various books you have read or films you have watched to demonstrate what you have learned.

Geography
We recently learned about ostriches and cheetahs in our Science lesson. One of the things that these two animals have in common is their habitat.
Both animals are common to the continent of Africa. Africa is a large continent known for its Savannah and Desert lands.
Today, we will learn about ecosystems--specifically biomes (which is a kind of land ecosystem).
We will learn about the various classifications (Desert, Savannah, Tundra, Tropical Rainforest, etc) of a biome. We will also learn about the land or terrain, the animals and their habitat, and the climate within these biomes too.
Today’s activities will help us to explore and learn about life in different regions of the world.
To start, hop on over to Khan Academy to watch an informative video on ecosystems and biomes.
After you finish at Khan, watch the video I have prepared for you. In it, I will take you over to Switch Zoo and walk you through building a biome (ie; a Desert biome-- The Sonoran Desert-- where we live).
Then, your assignment will be to create a biome yourself. After you have completed your biome building, either take a screenshot, or write out your answers on a piece of paper (with the Week/Day indicated at top with your name) and email it to me.
Information to include for this assignment will be:
the type of Biome (ie; Desert vs Tundra for example),
the plants that grow there,
the animals that live there
as well as the average temperature and precipitation amount specific to that region/biome.
Let’s get started! Simply click the links in the order they appear.
